profan (...remember wolfgang voigts abstract techno label from the 1990s) is back from the future, and again complicates the situation. like his earlier projects, the brand new sog (strictly limited to 400 copies) release combines seemingly familiar and extremely unfamiliar signs, and in the most unusual way bends them around the utterly familiar bass drum. the result is a conspiracy of four sound frescos of peculiar beauty, and indeed they deserve the title abweichung (engl. deviance) - named after voigts painting featured on the cover. this is minimal art techno that raises questions.
profan 32 will be released before profan 31which will be released a bit later. yet both are heralds of the art publication/double cd compilation: wolfang voigt – werkschau to be released in spring 2010.

its been a while since the last rsb release, but then tracks like this dont come along every day! for their first vinyl appearance on a label other than their own, enigmatic german duo ancient methods do the honourable thing and break out the whip, a track that comes across like a 2-step party in the foundry of thor himself. lets lazily label it anvil techno, because as far as we are aware no has yet invented a genre that adequately desribes music such as this. and as we have come to expect, much the same can be said of the evil sickness that is eat like hawks by bjorn svin (with a little help from karsten pflum, jona olesen & copyflex!). it starts like it means to go on, with a gnarled loop and indecipherable distorted vocals, and is gradually tweaked and augmented to the point of destruction. all manner of ill bass, overdriven filters, zaps, clanky drums & feedback join the party before the whole affair is brought to an abrupt end by the strange foreign lady that we have come to know and love over the course of the track. truly music for small, sweaty, strobe-driven cellars.

james braun is one of the new exciting producers out of denmark, with his strong productions he have earned great respect amongst djs like jesse rose and claude vonstroke. this is the second release from the danish producer on tartelet. the original is, like usually, a combination between solid house, great producing skills and james’ urge for experimenting with genre and sounds. with detroit-ish string theme and bass driven groove the original is fun, intriguing yet powerful. on the b-side tartelet are proud to present a remix by claude vonstroke, who wanted to do it after heavy support of brauns earlier material. the remix features many of the original elements but in updated and very danceable version. label-man tomas barfod shows us his darker sides on his remix. barfod takes symphonia late-night with string pad, dirty drums, spacy synths and deep-bass.

the bold and futuristic year of 2010 sees the release of >werkschau<, an unmixed compilation that gathers together a hand picked selection of the producers favourite cuts. the music stands for all that he loves, and what he loves he puts on show! summing up the landsky sound, and looking back over the years one cant help but feel a deep underlying quality emanate from the music. like subtle, mature flavours running through a well-prepared banquet. this special ep, capturing three choice tracks from those on offer on the compilaiton, includes some of our favourite landsky material, re-visited. firstly the seminal >1000 miles< is re-interpreted and brought up-to date, with landskys >2000 miles<. a strong driving powerhouse of reduced acid signals and hypnotic synth phrases, its the sound of martin landsky, future, present and past. a real deep running story of a track, >naked< is rich with thick bass and phasing, tripping chords, running percussion and growing tension that never ends. fitting to any occassion, the track was originally released on landskys own intim label and sounds as fresh now as the day it was released. tying things up the taught, tense and grooving tones of >monitor one< sail through. this futuristic house cut revolves around a staccato bass hook that drips with funk, echoing of landskys dj history that began before house was ever invented!

kicking off at least we can dance is an extended dj friendly version of the original track, featuring production from the dp team of sharp and zed bias. this extended cut is dekata project at their soulful house best, with heavy beats, jazz keys vibes, horns, funk undertones and soaring hook lines. on the remix tip, check out the heavy hitter nu:tone, with his high energy drum and bass take on the original, dripping in heavy basslines, intricate beats and synth builds that make you want to dance the summer away into the early hours. currently causing a stir in all dance music circles as one of the main instigators and contributors to the hype and buzz that is the uk funky scene, roska steps up with his cant stop dancing mix. using broken beats, garage, grime, dance hall and house vibes, roskas unique sound has critics and compilation makers hailing him as the new sound of londons dance scene, having recently featured in the guardian and mixmag.

untracked recordings had a killer year in 2009, and if this is any indication things are only going to get better for the vinyl only label in 2010. release eleven at the label is the incredible new all i ever wanted ep from rising star red rack em. the title track is straight beatdown, theo parrish esque stabs and rumbling sub bass underpin a low slung heavyweight, for the true underground connoisseurs. the track, however, thats had everyone freaking out is in love again. serious support from gilles peterson, and endless inquiries as to its release date has ensured this record won’t be around for long. deep warm pads, an emotive vocal and beautiful detroit strings bring this straight to the heart of the matter. 300 copies only on 180 gram vinyl.

a slammin release from style of eye with remixes by hipp e & troydon. the original is a bass heavy electro groove with tweaked out synths and a male reggae vocal. troydon trips things out even more on his mix, shuffling beats with his new minimal sound, along the lines of his phono shuffle release. hipp e is on fire again! a deep chugger with a big vocal breakdown.

entropic minus six contains four tracks selected from peter van hoesens forthcoming album. the mission of these four tunes is clearly aimed at the dancefloor. terminal kicks off this ep with an acidic, addictive bassline, supported by a solid kick drum traveling up and down the scales. strip it, boost it throws swinging metallic percussion at the listener, using only a few elements to maximum effect. on the flip side quartz 1 presents the story of a runaway slap bass riff, twisting and turning into a mad machinefunk frenzy. defense against the self opts for a more atmospheric approach, while maintaining the focus on the peters essential bass heavy sound. essential heavy bass, stripped down, machine influenced techno!

on his new album, pantha du prince, who lives in berlin and paris, claims: music slumbers in all matter, any sound, even silence, is already music. the mission, then, must be to render audible what is unheard and unheard of: black noise, a frequency that is inaudible to man. black noise often presages natural disasters, earthquakes or floods, only some animals perceive this calm before the storm. black noise is something archaic and earthy. the music on black noise balances precariously on the slippery threshold between art and nature, between techno and folklore, which lends it a certain spectral and intangible aspect. black noise also features a couple of special guests - noah lennox of animal collective sings on >stick to my side< and tyler pope of !!! and lcd soundsystem plays bass on >the splendour<.

the reverse side of the 12 inch is slightly deeper, techy affair. >chosen module< is a spacious wash of delays and pads mixed with robotic bass and crisp round beats. the final track >marios mushroom< carries on the spaced out trippy theme of the side with more spooky pads, bubbly bass lines and hypnotic rhythms.
